NS4253 Seminar on Technology and Strategic Planning

This course is intended to develop an understanding of the relationship between strategic planning and disruptive/emergent technologies. Issues include technological risk, symmetric and asymmetric technology applications, institutional impediments to innovation, and implementing a technology-based strategy in the context of great power competition.

·       Understand the basics of strategy, the strategic environment and context, and strategic planning.

·       Discuss the implications of emerging and disruptive technologies and their likely impact on the strategic environment.

·       Appraise the strategic direction of nation-state and other actors with respect to emerging and disruptive technology.

·       Communicate the role of emerging technology in Great Power Competition.

·       Understand the possible impact of technology on the modern battlefield across the spectrum of conflict.
