ME4211 Applied Hydrodynamics

Fundamental principles of hydrodynamics. Brief review of the equations of motion and types of fluid motion. Standard potential flows: source, sink, doublet, and vortex motion. Flow about two-dimensional bodies. Flow about axisymmetric bodies. Added mass of various bodies and the added-mass moment of inertia. Complex variables approach to flow about two-dimensional bodies. Conformal transformations. Flow about hydro and aerofoils. Special topics such as dynamic response of submerged bodies, hydroelastic oscillations, etc. Course emphasizes the use of various numerical techniques and the relationship between the predictions of hydrodynamics and viscous flow methods.
