GB1000 Quantitative Skills for Graduate Management Studies

This course is intended to help prepare students in the Department of Defense Management. The objective of the course is to reduce student's difficulties with quantitative tools in core courses, and allow them to focus on subsequent course materials. This is achieved through problem solving sessions that ensures the student has proficiency in basic pre-algebra, algebra, and graph-reading/drawing skills as demonstrated by weekly exams. Prerequisites: None.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will be able to:

• Apply basic algebraic concepts to mathematical expressions, equations, and relationships
• Solve first-degree, fractional, literal, quadratic, polynomial and linear equations, both algebraically and graphically
• Solve linear inequalities, both algebraically and graphically
• Solve functions that model real-world situations and applied problems
• Translate and solve word problems using mathematical analysis
• Model and solve real-world problems using graphs
• Understand basic properties of logarithms and exponents
• Use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve real-world problems
