CC4250 Enterprise Architecture

The focus of the course is the DoD enterprise and extended enterprise in terms of its information architecture. The course will look at Enterprise Architecture at the strategic, tactical and operational levels. The activities will include analysis of state of the art architectures, modeling enterprises, viewpoints and communications requirements. The student will analyze existing architectures, learn the relevance and limitations of enterprise architectures and to learn to appreciate the strengths and limitations of various approaches. The student will also become familiar with Service oriented architecture, the Information Technology Infrastructure Library and the role of components in the delivery of infrastructure products and standards.

Course Learning Outcomes

The overarching outcomes are twofold:

  • Student will understand the essential building blocks of an enterprise architecture and how those building blocks are used and apply to designing enterprise architecture for the DoD.
  • Students will understand what key decisions and trade-offs are inherent in designing and maintaining enterprise architectures in general and for DoD.

The more specific course outcomes are as follows:

  • Students will obtain an essential and in-depth knowledge of Enterprise Architecture, including terminology, methods, and industry and research trends.
  • Students will understand frameworks, theories, and best practices used in designing enterprise architecture for DoD related technologies.
  • Students will be able to apply their knowledge of enterprise architecture and related models to DoD technology strategies and existing technology artifacts.
