Systems engineering in the design of complex systems; systems architecture and interface engineering and the Navy design environment. The systems development process, including need identification, requirements, feasibility determination, risk reduction, contract and detailed design. The iterative, multilevel ship design process, with affordability as a fundamental feature; modern ship design and construction methods, systems engineering techniques and tools. Case studies, ship design trends, design exercises and illustrative.
