IW3921 Non-Kinetic Warfare

This course explores the complex nature of engaging targets in the information environment. Emphasis is on the myriad disciplines involved in using information systems as weapons systems and information as projectiles. Using the framework of joint fires and targeting processes students will develop an understanding of how to engage an opponent through the use of information related capabilities (IRCs) and networked computer and social systems to achieve effects in the physical domain. This course is conducted at the unclassified level utilizing open source information.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students completing this course will be able to

·       Differentiate between kinetic and non-kinetic weapons systems and “projectiles.”

·       Identify concepts of physical ballistics as they apply to weapons systems and relate these to concepts as they may apply to information related capabilities.

·       Identify elements of the targeting process and differentiate between those elements associated with systems delivering weapons intended for kinetic effect and those designed for non-kinetic effects.

·       Analyze historical engagements in the information domain and assess the effectiveness of the plans and subsequent execution of the operation.
